Description

"Mescalito Dixeebe" is a photograph of phenylethylamine crystals, a substance found in chocolate, here mixed with Dixeebe  ("Deej-bay") mezcal originating in Oaxaca, Mexico. Dixeebe is a sacred word from the Zapotec culture meaning "respect and love for the moment."  The Oaxacan region also has a long history and love for chocolate. The photo was taken through a microscope after growing the crystals by evaporation on on a glass microscope slide.The crystals create the colors by the refraction of light passing through the prism-like crystalline array.
