"REST BAY" – Chocolate Crystal Fine Art Photograph

“Rest Bay” evokes the shifting light, open water, and broad, flat shoreline of the Welsh beach for which it is named. Bands of turquoise, gold, blue, and violet stretch across the composition, transforming microscopic crystals into an expansive seascape.

The crystals were formed by evaporating a solution of phenylethylamine, a naturally occurring compound associated with chocolate, on a glass microscope slide. Photographed through a microscope using polarized light, the crystalline structures interact with the transmitted light to create their remarkable colors. No pigments were added; the color is created by the crystals themselves.
