Description

“Shangri-La” rises like a hidden landscape, its luminous crystalline forms suggesting cliffs, mountains, and a distant passage into another world. Soft golds and pale yellows contrast with deep violet and blue, creating an image with unusual depth, perspective, and emotional resonance.

The crystals were formed by evaporating a solution of phenylethylamine—a naturally occurring compound associated with chocolate—on a glass microscope slide. Photographed through a microscope using polarized light, the crystalline structures interact with the transmitted light to produce their remarkable colors.
